Living alone for the first time with a lot of my time on my hands, I decided to start trying the recipes I keep drooling over on food blogs and also keep an open mind to trying the northern cuisine. It didn’t always turn out well. The first vegetable soup I prepared with Spinach here was tasteless, glory to God, I wasn’t afraid of my mother appearing to knock sense into my head so I jejely ate biscuits and slept. But some of them turned out great.
I can’t stop raving about this book. It’s written in Epistolary form; a collection of letters and journal entries of two best friends. It spans through their birth, meeting, teenage years, heartbreaks, love, marriage, childbirth, loss and growth. Debbie’s characters are strong, it was so easy to identify with their pain and happy times. If you love So long a letter by Mariama Ba, then you will love this. I recommend it to anyone who loves books themed on the friendship and bond between women.
I overheard Julie Andrew’s rendition of My Favourite Things in The sound of music from my neighbour’s and I was filled with nostalgia. Sigh, I need to see that movie again. Was there ever a part 2? How did the Captain and his family fare after the war?
Well, It inspired me to have a New year countdown. I will make a list of a few of my favourite things in 2017 everyday from tomorrow until the 31st. Writing lists always have a soothing effect on me, so I’m looking forward to it. I will love to read of your favourite things about the year.
